Assalamu Alaikum Everyone,
I hope this message finds you well today.
Reflecting on the past two years as Principal of Iqra School, I am filled with immense gratitude for how warm, welcoming, and dedicated this community continues to be. Since joining in Term Three two years ago, following a wonderful transition alongside Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, it has been an absolute privilege to lead and grow alongside our incredible students, hard-working teachers, specialized staff, and supportive Board of Trustees.
Drawing on my two decades of experience in educational leadership—including my time at ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College—my passion for primary education, commitment to inclusivity, and dedication to raising student progress remain at the heart of everything I do. Over these past two years, it has been immensely rewarding to see our shared values in action and to watch our students thrive within the unique special character that makes Iqra School so extraordinary.
Thank you to all our parents, caregivers, and community members for your ongoing support, engagement, and collaboration. Together, we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful, and enriching environment where every student can succeed.
As always, my door is open—please feel free to pop in and say hello when you are next at the school!
Kind regards,
Leanne Chartrand

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Today on 20.8.26 we practised our emergency procedures under the guidance of Harrison Tew®, who specialise in emergency management planning for schools and educational facilities. The procedures we follow allow us to respond safely and quickly to a range of situations.
We are pleased to inform you that our practise today went very well with our students responding safely and calmly. During the year we will continue to practise our emergency procedure exercises to ensure all staff and students remain familiar with them.
Should you become aware of a lockdown or an evacuation at the school, can I please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond. Your presence or contact may make it more difficult for us or the emergency services to manage a situation. Any information pertaining to an emergency occurring at the school will be updated on our website as regularly as possible.
We believe that it is important that we conduct regular practices for lockdowns and evacuations so that we can all be well prepared and familiar with our procedures should an emergency occur.
We thank you for your support.
Kind regards
Leanne Chartrand
Principal, Iqra School
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are reaching out to our wonderful school community to see if anyone might be in a position to lend a helping hand to a local family in need of temporary support.
One of our school families, who lives in the Glen Eden area, is currently navigating a challenging short-term situation and is finding it difficult to manage school drop-offs and pick-ups on certain days of the week. They have two children attending Iqra School.
If you live in or near Glen Eden and have space in your car—even if it is just for an occasional morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up—your support would make a world of difference to this family over the next few weeks. Carpooling even one or two days a week, or on an ad-hoc basis, would be immensely appreciated.
How you can help:
Location: Glen Eden area (to/from Iqra School)
Children: 2 students
Frequency: Flexible / short-term (off and on during the week)
If you are open to helping out or would like more details, please reach out directly to the Principal. We will then connect you with the family to see if your schedules align.
Thank you so much for your generosity, kindness, and for always looking out for one another in our school community.
Warm regards,
Leanne Chartrand
Principal (leanne.chartrand@iqra.school.nz)

Dear Year 1, Room 10 Parents and Caregivers,
We are excited to share that on Wednesday, 9 September, from 9:00 am to 10:20 am, Room 10 will be hosting a special visit from our local community!
Eight 4-year-old children and two staff members from Best Start Early Childhood Centre will be spending the morning with us.
Purpose of the Visit
This visit is a wonderful opportunity for our school to build stronger connections with our local community. It also gives the visiting children, who are preparing for their own upcoming transition to primary school, a chance to experience a Year 1 classroom environment and see what school life is like.
What to Expect
During their time with us, the children will:
Join in on our morning classroom routines.
Interact and engage in fun learning activities alongside our Year 1 students.
Get a friendly introduction to school expectations and classroom spaces.
Our students are looking forward to being welcoming hosts, sharing their classroom, and showing our visitors what makes Room 10 such a great place to learn!
If you have any questions about the morning, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your continued support in making our classroom a warm and connected community.
Warm regards,
Leanne Chartrand
