Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Assalamu Alaikum Everyone.

I hope this message finds you well today. I am delighted to be appointed the new Principal of Iqra School starting Term Three. I have already been so welcomed to the school by wonderful staff and students who have gone out of their way to make sure I am well supported here at Iqra School. I have taught over two decades in a number of roles in educational leadership, including ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College. I have a passion for primary education, a commitment to inclusivity and a dedication to fostering a collaborative learning environment. I have gained invaluable experience raising students’ progress and improving outcomes for students. My values align seamlessly with the mission of Iqra School and I am eager to begin work alongside specialised staff, hard working teachers and wonderful students. The Board of Trustees have enabled me to have a wonderful transition with Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, and I am grateful for the smooth handover that has transpired.

It is a privilege and humbling to become part of the Iqra School community amongst the special character that only Iqra School can bring. Thank you so much for all the support already shown me. I am excited to start a new chapter here at Iqra School. Your engagement and cooperation are invaluable to me as we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful and enriching environment for all our students. Please pop in and say hello when you are next at Iqra School!

Kind regards,

Leanne Chartrand

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
We are excited to announce that Maths Week will be taking place at Iqra School from Monday 10 August to Friday 14 August.

Throughout the week, students will take part in a wide range of fun and engaging mathematical activities designed to encourage problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and a love of mathematics. There will be opportunities for everyone to get involved, regardless of their confidence or ability in maths.

Some of the exciting activities planned include:

Daily maths challenges
House competitions
Maths games and puzzles
Blooket/Kahoot competitions
Logic and strategy activities
And more
Students are encouraged to participate enthusiastically, support their classmates, and give every challenge their best effort. There will be plenty of opportunities to earn points for their house, win prizes, and celebrate mathematical thinking.

We also encourage families to join in the excitement by asking your child about the activities they have completed each day or challenging them with a few maths puzzles at home.

We look forward to an enjoyable week filled with curiosity, teamwork, and mathematical fun.

Friday Prayer
5 Aug 2026

Assalamu Alaikum dear parents,

We are pleased to open the opportunity for parents to lead our Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer and deliver the Khutbah for our students.

Jumu'ah is one of the most significant weekly acts of worship in Islam—a time for gathering, reflection, and receiving reminders that strengthen our faith. Inviting parents to take on this role gives our students the opportunity to learn from and connect with members of their own community. It also strengthens the partnership between home and school by allowing parents to play an active part in our students' Islamic learning and spiritual development.

If you would like to lead the prayer and deliver the Khutbah, you are welcome to do so once or on a more regular basis, whatever suits your availability.

To meet our safeguarding requirements, anyone wishing to take on this role will need to complete a police vetting process. Please bring a valid proof of identity (such as a passport or driver's licence) to the school so we can arrange this.

If you are interested or would like more information, please let us know. We look forward to welcoming parents to share in this important aspect of our school community.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Survey - Consultation with community revising our Iqra School strategic plan
5 Aug 2026

Community Feedback Form

Strategic planning and reporting helps our board to determine outcomes, execute plans, and monitor and report progress towards goals. Our board is required to consult with our school community to determine their aspirations and values.

Bringing together community feedback, an understanding of the paramount and supporting objectives, and your school’s current performance will help identify the priorities that will shape your board’s strategic direction.

Our current strategic plan is 5 -fold:
a) Improve student achievement
b) Improve attendance and punctuality
c) Improve behaviour
d) Improve staff performance
e) Improve finances of the school

This survey should take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete.

Please go to FORMS on skool loop and click on the Community Feedback Form to complete the survey.

Thank you for helping shape the future of our school. Your input ensures our strategic goals reflect the values, needs, and aspirations of our community, whānau, and students.

Closing Date: Monday, 10 August 2026

Evacuation Drill scheduled for Tuesday 20 August 2026
5 Aug 2026

RE.Evacuation drill

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

At our school, the safety and well-being of your children are our top priorities. To ensure our campus remains a safe environment, we hold regular evacuation drills throughout the school year.

We wanted to share why these drills are so vital for our primary students:

●      Building Muscle Memory: Young children can easily freeze or panic during loud alarms. Regular practice turns the proper safety steps into automatic habits, helping students calmly follow instructions.

●      Reducing Fear and Anxiety: Loud alarms and sudden routines can be frightening. Practicing regularly demystifies the process so children know what to expect and feel secure rather than scared.

●      Testing Our Emergency Plans: Drills allow our staff to identify and fix any potential delays—like blocked exits or slow roll calls—ensuring our evacuation process is as fast and smooth as possible.

●      Ensuring Every Child is Accountable: Practice makes sure our teachers can quickly move every student outside, account for attendance, and safely guide children with special physical or sensory needs within seconds.

These brief exercises turn potential chaos into calm, organized action. If your child mentions a drill at home, we encourage you to praise their cooperation and reassure them that practicing keeps our school family safe.

Please know that our school will participate in an evacuation drill, which will take place on Thursday, 20 August at 11:30am.

What will happen during the drill?

At the designated time, we will sound a signal across the school. All students and staff will immediately practise leaving the building to our designated meeting spot. The drill will only take a few minutes and will be conducted in a calm and controlled manner.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep our school community safe and prepared.

If you require further information please contact your child’s teacher or go to https://getready.govt.nz/

Kind regards,

Food stall fundraiser by Room 14
5 Aug 2026

REMINDER

As-salāmu ʿalaykum Whānau,

We are excited to let you know that Room 14 will be hosting a Food Stall Fundraiser on Thursday, 6 August to help raise funds towards their Year 7/8 camp later this year.

All students will receive pre order forms on Monday, 3 August. The preorder form has also been attached to this email. Kindly return the completed pre-order form with your child's name clearly written on the form, along with the correct amount of money in a clearly labelled envelope to the classroom teacher by Wednesday, 5 August. Please also write the amount of money enclosed on the pre-order form to help us process orders accurately. The food will be ready for collection during lunchtime on Thursday.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase food on the day using cash, while stocks last.

Food items may be available in limited quantities, so some items may sell out. We encourage students to bring a packed lunch, just in case their preferred choices are unavailable.

If your child has food allergies kindly ensure that they bring their own food on the food stall day due to cross contamination of foods. This is for their safety.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support of our students and school community.

Jazākumullāhu khayran.
