Assalamu Alaikum Everyone,
I hope this message finds you well today.
Reflecting on the past two years as Principal of Iqra School, I am filled with immense gratitude for how warm, welcoming, and dedicated this community continues to be. Since joining in Term Three two years ago, following a wonderful transition alongside Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, it has been an absolute privilege to lead and grow alongside our incredible students, hard-working teachers, specialized staff, and supportive Board of Trustees.
Drawing on my two decades of experience in educational leadership—including my time at ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College—my passion for primary education, commitment to inclusivity, and dedication to raising student progress remain at the heart of everything I do. Over these past two years, it has been immensely rewarding to see our shared values in action and to watch our students thrive within the unique special character that makes Iqra School so extraordinary.
Thank you to all our parents, caregivers, and community members for your ongoing support, engagement, and collaboration. Together, we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful, and enriching environment where every student can succeed.

Assalamu Alaikum and Kia Ora Koutou, IQRA School formerly known as IQRA Elementary is a state-integrated area school catering to students from year 1 to year 8. IQRA was established in 2016 by our proprietors Algoritmi Educational Trust.
We are focused on providing quality education by developing our own IQRA special character curriculum. The IQRA special character curriculum is made up of Islamic Studies, Quran and Arabic Language intertwined through the New Zealand Curriculum and the learning context. We also have formal Quran and Arabic language lessons.
We look forward to working with all of you on the journey to making our school a leading Islamic School in New Zealand that ensures our students stay connected with our faith, languages, cultures and strong heritage.

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Alhamdulillah, we are delighted to share some exciting news with our Iqra School community!
The Iqra School Board has officially approved the expansion of our school to include Year 9 in 2027, followed by Year 10 in 2028, Insha'Allah.
This is a significant milestone for Iqra School and the fulfilment of a long-standing vision of our proprietors, who have worked towards this goal since the school was established.
Year 9 Enrolment – 2027
A limited number of places will be available for Year 9 in 2027, with priority given to our current Year 8 students.
All current Year 8 families are kindly requested to complete the Expression of Interest Form below, indicating whether they wish their child to continue at Iqra School in 2027.

We ask all Year 8 families to submit a response, whether YES or NO, to assist us with enrolment planning. Should places remain available, these will be offered in accordance with the school's enrolment policy, including sibling priority.
We are truly excited about this new chapter and the opportunity to continue providing quality education within our nurturing Islamic environment.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Iqra School Athletics Day – 4th of November (Years 1–8)
Your child will be participating in the annual Iqra School Athletics Sports Day on Wednesday 4 November (rain date Thursday 5 November). The event will be held at Lynndale Athletics Club. Field and track events will commence at 9.00am - 12:00pm for Years 1–3. Field and track events will commence at 12:00 am for the Years 4 – 8. Year 4-8 students will return to school by 3.00pm and Year 1-3 students will return to school by 1:30pm (they will play on the adjoining park’s playground for 30 minutes until their bus arrives). Athletics Day will only be cancelled in extreme weather circumstances. Year 1-3 will be transported to and from the location by bus. Year 4-8 students will walk to and from the venue accompanied by parent helpers and staff. All students must bring their Iqra School hat, wear a shirt in their house colour (House Taqwa = Green, Respect = Purple, Responsibility = Red, Excellence = Yellow, Confidence = Black, Care = Blue, Acceptance & Tolerance = Orange), bring a packed lunch, at least one water bottle (preferably two), sunblock, and their Iqra School jacket.
In line with health advice, if an individual has a cold, flu, or COVID-19, they should remain at home and seek appropriate health guidance. As with all physical activities, there are associated risks, including soft tissue injury, cuts, sprains, bruises, and minor emotional stress. While risks can be minimised, they cannot be completely eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. If you would like to view our safety management systems or have any questions, please contact Thomas Rutten or Fatima Sabe via email.
There will be no event finals on the day. Children’s heats will be timed, and the top three students from each track and field event will be awarded championship points and certificates. Normal school rules and expectations apply for the duration of the event. For safety reasons, students must follow all instructions from staff and comply with school and venue rules. Any behaviour that is deemed unsafe or disruptive may result in the student being withdrawn from the event and parents notified. To ensure the smooth running of the day, we are seeking parent helpers with police vetting to assist with tasks such as walking children to and from the venue, timekeeping, place judging, and other duties.
Please contact Thomas Rutten or Fatima Sabe if you are able to help by Wednesday 28 October. Parent helpers will be permitted on the track/field. Parent helpers will be given a lanyard and high vis vest to wear on the day to identify themselves as helpers on the day. Parents who are not allocated a role must remain behind the cones at all times and view from there. This is to maintain safety and ensure children have adequate space to participate without distraction.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
At Iqra School, we value the beautiful diversity within our school community. We are an Iqra family of different ethnicities all bound by the message of Islam. We are excited to celebrate this through our upcoming Culture Day, scheduled for Wednesday 28th October 2026
On the day, students are encouraged to:
● Wear traditional clothes that represent their cultural background.
● Bring a plate of food from their culture to share with their classmates. (Please ensure food is clearly labelled if it contains common allergens.)
● Join in cultural games and activities planned by the teachers.
● Participate in a cultural parade, where students will have the opportunity to present and celebrate their cultural clothing with the school community.
Culture Day is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about one another’s heritage, show pride in their identity, and celebrate the diversity that enriches us all. Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to a joyful and educational day, inshaAllah!

"Alsalam Alaikum dear parents,
During Term 3, students at Iqra had the opportunity to access counselling support from our local psychologist, Areej Arif. The initiative helped students better understand and navigate their emotional, behavioural, and learning needs. A total of 20 students were referred for individual counselling sessions, with many more benefiting from whole-class talks. We are grateful to all the parents and staff who supported this initiative. Unfortunately, due to challenges securing ongoing funding, the initiative will be placed on hold during Term 4. We are actively exploring funding options to resume the service in Term 1, 2027, and will keep the school community updated as plans are confirmed. Parents of referred students will receive an email this week with strategies to support their child’s ongoing wellbeing. Please see your child's teacher if you have any concerns or wish to discuss your child's needs.
