Dear Parents and Guardians,
Assalamu Alaikum Everyone.
I hope this message finds you well today. I am delighted to be appointed the new Principal of Iqra School starting Term Three. I have already been so welcomed to the school by wonderful staff and students who have gone out of their way to make sure I am well supported here at Iqra School. I have taught over two decades in a number of roles in educational leadership, including ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College. I have a passion for primary education, a commitment to inclusivity and a dedication to fostering a collaborative learning environment. I have gained invaluable experience raising students’ progress and improving outcomes for students. My values align seamlessly with the mission of Iqra School and I am eager to begin work alongside specialised staff, hard working teachers and wonderful students. The Board of Trustees have enabled me to have a wonderful transition with Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, and I am grateful for the smooth handover that has transpired.
It is a privilege and humbling to become part of the Iqra School community amongst the special character that only Iqra School can bring. Thank you so much for all the support already shown me. I am excited to start a new chapter here at Iqra School. Your engagement and cooperation are invaluable to me as we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful and enriching environment for all our students. Please pop in and say hello when you are next at Iqra School!
Kind regards,
Leanne Chartrand

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
RE. Term 1 Attendance Update
We've received our preliminary report from the Ministry of Education (see attached), and the results give us a huge reason to celebrate.
Our regular attendance for Term 1 was 80%!
This means that over 90% of students are coming to school 80% of the time. The official target of the Ministry of Education is 80% for 2030! Well done to Iqra School for achieving this Term 1 of 2026! The growth we have seen in attendance is incredible. In Term 1 of 2025 our school's regular attendance was 57%.
This massive improvement is a reflection of the hard work from our wonderful parents, students. I would like to tell you the school is grateful for making school a priority and ensuring your children are here ready to learn.
Another statistic shown below is our students' punctuality (being at school by 8:30am).
Only 57% of our students are arriving on time regularly.
Going forward all students need to be at school by 8:30am so they don't miss their literacy and numeracy lessons as well as important instructions for the day.
School begins again on Monday 20 April. As we head into the winter months we face new challenges with winter illnesses. Please play your part to keep punctuality a focus by prioritising sleep (children need to get to bed early so they can wake refreshed for the day). Also please remember regular hand washing to keep germs at bay.
Lets keep the momentum going and aim even higher for both punctuality and regular attendance for Term 2. See you all on Monday. Have a lovely weekend.

RE. Year 2 Room 2 Classroom Teacher
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we are now beginning the new school term I would like to take this opportunity to let you know of some upcoming changes to the classroom teacher.
I am writing to inform you that Ms Zoha Qadri, your child’s class teacher, will be away on maternity leave from Term 3 until the end of the year. She will return in 2027 to Iqra School . We understand that the beginning of the term is an important time for settling in, and I want to assure you that we have made arrangements to ensure a smooth transition for the children.
During Ms. Zoha Qadri’s absence, the class will be taught by Ms. Farasha Nisha, an experienced Junior primary school teacher. Ms Farasha Nisha will follow the planned routines and curriculum to ensure that the children feel supported and welcomed as they transition back into school life. She will be with the children until the end of 2026.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
We look forward to an exciting and productive term ahead and welcoming Ms Zoha Qadri back to the classroom on her return in 2027 and welcoming Ms Farasha Nisha to Iqra School as the Year 2 Classroom teacher beginning Term 3.
Kind regards,
Leanne Chartrand

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Like most people and organisations at the moment, we are paying close attention to the evolving conflict in the Middle East and its impact on fuel supply and pricing in New Zealand.
The attached letter covers:
Aligning with government response
What this means for our school
What you can do
Aligning with government response
While the fuel supply issues are the latest in a long list of global uncertainties, they are one that has a direct effect on how we go about our day to day lives. It’s understandable that this may cause some distress and concern so please talk to your children to reassure them if they need support.
The school will keep you updated on Skool Loop as necessary. In the meantime have a safe week ahead.

RE. Visits to New Lynn Library
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
In a world filled with screens and distractions, the importance of reading is more relevant than ever. Picking up a good book sparks our imagination, builds empathy, and gets us thinking critically. Reading takes us to new places, exposes us to different viewpoints, and encourages us to question what we know. But the benefits of reading go beyond personal growth; they help strengthen our communities, and that’s where public libraries come in as key players.
Public libraries are more than just places to borrow books; they’re gateways to a treasure trove of information and resources. They provide free access to literature, reference materials, and technology, making it possible for everyone, no matter their background, to learn and grow. Libraries especially work hard to encourage a love of reading in children.
Students at Iqra School will be visiting the New Lynn Library(3 Memorial Drive, New Lynn) once a term for the rest of this year.
The visits will take place : 11 May-14 May
Your teacher will let you know the time your child’s class is booked to visit the New Lynn Library. If you want to come along and help with supervision please let your child’s teacher know (and ensure you have completed a police vetting form, you can get this from reception).
The children will be walking from school to the New Lynn Library and this will take about 10 minutes each way.
If your child does not have a Library Card, this is a great opportunity to get one by popping down to New Lynn Library. Joining is free for all residents and ratepayers of Auckland. If you want your child to be able to borrow books from the New Lynn Library please have them bring their card on the day of their visit. If you do not wish to have your child borrow a New Lynn Library book, they do not need a Library Card.
Please let your classroom teacher know if you do not give consent for your child to participate in the New Lynn Library visits.
We hope that your child will grow their love of reading and that the visits will open a gateway to information and resources for your child.
If you have any questions at all please ask your classroom teacher.
Kind regards
